Violet Evergarden: Episode 01

Who is this Violet woman, and what the heck is wrong with her arms?

Sean and Lee are celebrating the glorious arrival of this show by kicking off the Season of Anime Robot Women!

Sean here, I’ll be the one writing these show notes for you to enjoy (if you’re the sort of person who likes to venture into the untamed wilderness that is your podcast player’s notes section).

Lee’s been trying to get Sean to watch Violet Evergarden for a dog’s age by this point, but he always demurred. Oh, there are just so many other things to watch, he would say, and then quietly slink away to his various out-of-control streaming lists. He was probably just powering through Bosch, or maybe enjoying Psych for the thousandth time. As you do.

Years passed, we all grew a little older and wiser, and yet Sean made no effort to watch the show on his own. It would take serious discussions about starting a podcast—yes, this very podcast—to get the ball rolling. Lee suggested that the pair watch Violet Evergarden, Netflix’s foremost anime series about girls with robot arms who work in the letter-writing section of a post office, for the show. What better way to start a podcast about the wide world of streaming media than by streaming a gorgeous and mysterious story?

Seems that getting Sean to do something requires assigning him a task. Otherwise, he’s going to show off his extreme procrastination expertise.

We also dig into our current lives: what’s the non-dairy “cheese” situation like in our respective locales, what sort of tea is coating our throats, and what’s the story on our history with anime?
